Chaos In Syria: Fight For The Front

Syria is a middle eastern nation which is engulfed in a civil war and has turned into a proxy battle ground. Unrest against the President of Syria Bashar al-Assad began as a peaceful up rising but now it has turned into a full scale civil war which has killed 300,000 people and has devastated the nation. HOW DID THE CONFLICT BEGIN?

The Syrian conflict has a long history behind it.Long before the conflict began, the citizens of Syria started complaining about high unemployment, high corruption rates and lack of freedom under the presidentship of Bashar al-Assad. 

In March of 2011, Syria witnessed pro-democracy demonstrations which were inspired by the Arab Spring.The protesters demanded the resignation of the resident.Use of heavy force to crush the conflict further elevated when the government used deadly force to silence the peaceful protestors.As the use of armed forces increased, the protestors began to take up arms to rebel against the armed forces. 

HOW DID THE CONFLICT ESCALATE?

The Syrian civil war was first a conflict between the President’s forces and the rebels.This conflict was not supposed to last so long, the intervention of other countries and super powers has made what was a bad situation even worse by turning Syria into a Proxy battlfield.

Russia had launched air strikes in the September of 2015 stressing that they would only target terrorists in the Syrian pennensula.

Contraddicting this satement, Russian planes often target western backed rebbel groups.After six months of air strikes when the war had turned into Russia's ally Syria's favour, Russia's president Vladimir Putin ordered the main part of Russia's military to withdraw from Syria.However, till date Russia's air strikes countinue to do damage in Syria.On the other hand, the United States of America says that President Assad is responsible for the atrocities committed in Syria.The US gives nominal support to the rebells fighting against the Syrian forces.The United States is also conducting air strikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or ISIS since the September of 2014. 

Leaving these two super powers aside, the Middle Eastern neighborhood as it's known consisting of Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are also playing small roles in the war. 

CONSEQUENCES OF THE WAR

The war has caused un-imaginable chaos in the Syrian Penninsula.Estimates are that around 470,000 people have lost their lives fighting in the war.Around 5 million people have fled Syria and have become refugees in neighbouring countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey.Most of these people consists of women and children.Around 10% of these refugees have found safety in Europe.The war has left 85% of the Syrian population in poverty, 12.8 million people need health assistance and 17 million need food.1.75 million kids in Syria are out of food. 

RESPONSE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMITTEE

There is a consensus that neither side will be able to defeat the other, a political solution is the only option.Peace talks were held in the past but they did not see much of success and broke down in a few months of implementation.Kazakhstan hosted a face to face meeting between the countries involved in the conflict and the rebel fighters.The bottom line is that the Syrian conflict is a highly politically complicated conflict with almost the enitre world involved.The conflict has been concentrated in one of the most unforgiving parts of the world and there is a strong need to find out a solution for this.Syria needs a stable government and it's citizens deserves a conflict free and a healthy life.Thus, the international community must take strict measures to curb this conflict.
