The History Of President Trump's Travel Ban
THE TRAVEL BAN : PRESIDENT TRUMP'S WAY TO FIGHT TERRORISM
On 27th of January, 2017. President Trump signed what is known as the travel ban. It is a step taken by the government to curb terrorism in the country and limit refugees and immigrants from entering the United States. The ban prohibits refugees from entering the country for 120 days and immigrants for three months from seven nations : Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia.
The travel ban is what the president prommised during his campaign for the presidentship of the United States.This fairly anticipated step has had some confusion because the officials of the justice department and the homeland security were never informed about how this ban was supposed to be implimented.
It does't matter if one has a valid visa because the ban holds every one alike.Some travellers who were in flight when the ban was signed, were told to return home and were not granted permission to enter the United States when they landed.Other people were detained and were sent back to where they flew from.
SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT HAPPY
As the news spread amongst the people that the travel ban has been signed, hundreds showed up at airports in Washington, New York, Seatle and even in front of the White house to protest.
heads of state of other nations were not in favour of the ban.
IS THE BAN PERMITTED?
Yes it is, the federal law of the United States gives the president the authority to frame and shape the country's immigration policy.So implimenting such kinds of bans is in the jurisdiction of the president.Though the ban is completely legal, it faces critics because people call it "unconstitutional" and "discriminatory".
BUT WHY ONLY THOSE SEVEN NATIONS?
This answer goes back to the time when former president Barack Obama was the haed of state.
But president Trump has taken that law up a notch by completely baning travelers from these nations for three months.As the ban was facing critics, President Trump brought up the spetember 11 attacks as a justification.
WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE?
If the U.S wants to eradicate terrorism then this ban is not enough.I beleive that this ban should be used as a basis to form other laws and then be lifted.The intention of the American government is genius, the only thing to improve on is implimentation of this intention.Eradicating a group of citizens from a background is not a solution, that is the reason why the ban is for three months, the government might figure out a way to fight terrorism in these three months and play an end game.However, one can not anticipate what the Trump andministration has in store for us, anything can happen at any time.
